Tips for Playing Video Clips

Opening multiple videos l Bookmarking videos l Linking to videos l Color coding

Opening Multiple Videos

  1. Open a video clip (the QuickTime player will open and begin playing the video).
  2. Stop or pause the video.
  3. Minimize (PC) or hide (Mac) the QuickTime player instead of closing it.
  4. Open another video.
  5. You may now switch between the videos you have opened. If you minimize or hide your browser window, you can see all open QuickTime windows and play each clip.
  6. Note: on some school networks, you will receive an error message if you stop a video like this and attempt to play it later. Test this procedure before using it in your classroom.

"Bookmarking" videos to show in class using the QuickTime player

  1. Open a video clip.
  2. Stop or pause the video.
  3. Click on Favorites in the QuickTime menu bar.
  4. Choose "Add movie as a favorite".
  5. Note the file name of the clip you have bookmarked for future use.

"Bookmarking" videos to show in class using your browser

  1. Navigate to the the focus question that contains the videos you wish to play.
  2. Click on Bookmarks - "Add bookmark" (Netscape) or
click on Favorites - "Add to favorites" (Internet Explorer).
  3. You may wish to create a folder for your lesson, then save the bookmarks in that folder.

Linking to videos from your own Web page

  1. Find the clip you want to make a link to and begin playing it. At the top of the QuickTime player click on Window and select Show Movie Info to find the URL to the clip shown next to Source. Unfortunately you can't copy and paste it, so you will need to write it down - it can be long but IT MUST BE EXACT!

  2. Use the following code in an HTML page and replace XXX with the URL you found in Step 1.

    <EMBED SRC=watchnow.mov href=XXX TARGET=quicktimeplayer controller=false width=150 height=50 autoplay=false pluginspage=http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/></embed>

NOTES:

Color coding

The video clips in Digital Wisconsin are color coded by series to help you and your students know from which series a particular clip comes. The color is found on the title bar at the beginning of each clip.
