If your computer is unable to play the video, you may need to download QuickTime version 6.0 or higher. Simply click on the "Get QuickTime" button above and follow the instructions.

Configuring QuickTime

You may also need to configure QuickTime in order to run the videos.
Just follow these steps:

1. Open the QuickTime player.
2. On the player's main menu, click on Edit, then Preferences, then QuickTime Preferences.
3. A QuickTime Settings box will open. Select Streaming Transport from the list. (Click the down arrow to open that list.)
4. Make sure you selected UDP and set it to Port: 554 or 7070.
5. Close the QuickTime Settings box and try to play the video again.

Tips on viewing videos and using the QuickTime Player

You can control the size of the QuickTime Player viewing window by clicking Movie on the player's main menu:

1. Click Double Size to make the viewing window larger.
Shortcuts: Ctrl-2 (Windows) or Apple-2 (Mac)

2. Clicking on Normal Size returns the window to the original size.
Shortcuts: Ctrl-1 (Windows) or Apple-1 (Mac)

You will need Acrobat Reader version 4.0 or higher in order to view the Teacher Guide documents. We recommend that you upgrade to Adobe Reader version 6.0 to take advantage of all the features available in the Teacher Guides. Click on the "Get Adobe Reader" button above and follow the instructions.

Disabling RealOne's file association grabber

If you are unable to play the Digital Wisconsin QuickTime video clips because the RealOne Player rather than the QuickTime player opens, you will need to disable this function from within the RealOne Player (also known as RealPlayer).

  1. Open the RealOne Player.
  2. Click on Tools and then Preferences.
  3. Click on the + next to Content, then click on Media Types.
  4. Uncheck the MPEG Audio, MPEG Video, MPEG Media and MP4 boxes.
  5. Uncheck the box at the bottom of the window that reads "Periodically check my system to maintain these preferences..."

To make sure that your QuickTime player is now set to handle these file types:

  1. Open the QuickTime player.
  2. Click on Edit, then Preferences, then choose QuickTime preferences.
  3. In the QuickTime Settings box that pops up, choose Browser Plug-in from the drop-down box, then click on MIME settings.
  4. Click on Use Defaults, then on OK.

Minimum browser specifications

If you have problems viewing Digital Wisconsin, check to see which version of Web browser you are using. The site should function correctly using Internet Explorer version 5 or above, and Netscape Navigator version 6 or above. If you are having trouble viewing the site you may need to download a more recent browser.

Choosing your video format

By default, all of the Digital Wisconsin video content is configured to play in the 300K format. To play video content in either of the other two formats, click to select the desired format, and then click on the Set Format button.

Three forumlas of video are provided within Digital Wisconsin:

Computer Lab Use (300k) for multiple users who are viewing video simultaneously on multiple computers.

Close Captioned Computer Lab Use (300K) same as above, with captions.

Classroom Use (768k) for single user, such as a teacher, showing video to entire classroom from one computer.
